In all cases the Quarantine
Service undertakes a risk assessment based on sound
technical information.
Some fruits and vegetables brought into Samoa do not
present a biosecurity risk, however there are some
that will - or that could harbour pests that would
be a serious threat to our economy and environment.
It is not possible to itemise fruits and vegetables
that will be allowed unconditional entry as the pest
and disease status of overseas countries is constantly
changing - and the fruit and vegetables market is
extremely sensitive to these changes.
Importers of commercial consignments must be constantly
aware of these changes, and update their records accordingly
- it is up to you to liaise with the Quarantine Service
and to know the import requirements.
We do not encourage travellers
to bring fruits and vegetables here. Where fruits
and vegetables are allowed they must always be accompanied
by a (prior) Permit to Import and associated entry
documentation.
We do encourage travellers to declare what they
have so that the Quarantine Officer can decide on
the biosecurity risk status of the item.
Always declare these items, and
if in doubt ask a Quarantine Officer for advice.
Some items may be prohibited entry, and others may
require treatment before entry can be allowed.
Please be aware that there are
severe penalties for non-declaration of risk items.
